As buttercups in the sun, You appeared to me. Your splendor, in my eyes, Blinded all I could see. You opened up your arms, And drew me close to you. You whispered in my ear, The praise I longed to hear. You stood up so proudly, When my knees were weak. You reached out your hand, To catch me when I'd fall. So confident I knew The truth of your intent. Yet, hidden in plain sight, Was your deceit. You comforted my heart, With luscious lies. And embraced me close, With sweetened malice. You choked the light out, That lingered in my eyes. And smothered me, In your bitter ice. You departed in delight, Just as you came, But with hopes and dreams, That belonged to me.
