I miss raising my kids with my sister, Children drop offs at moms house, To do something we probably shouldn't. I miss the comfort at the end of the phone, At the end of a crazy day. The weekend fishing trips, And dancing to burned CDs. I miss piling our children in one room to sleep, The early morning breakfast, With the spiderman and princess plates and cups. I grieve as if these things are never possible, Like life has dealt us a hand cut short. I grieve her voice like it's unattainable, And the vibration of her laugh. I miss the sister I use to have, The one before life was heavy, And division was a word. It's hard to believe, Hard to understand, Almost impossible to accept Like death So permanent And final But is it? Is it true, Can I accept it, Will it heal any better, Will I stand any taller? No I won't I can tell you because Every night after putting the kids to sleep I still think to myself I miss raising my kids with my sister
