I'm trapped inside a moving box. I thought people would come and go. I thought it would carry me to the floor I was meant to reach. I thought I could rise and descend whenever I wished. Staring at my reflection in its polished walls, I grew afraid. Perhaps, I would remain inside this airless space forever. Without rescue. My voice stayed trapped, while the quietest part of me kept screaming. So this is what it feels like. Silencing, locking, burying my own heart. No wonder everything felt suffocating. No wonder it was so hard to breathe. Then, the button appeared. Not because it had never been there, but because I finally believed I could be gentler with my soul, so it no longer had to survive inside that box. When the doors opened, I stepped out with a bittersweet smile. I had reached a floor I had never stood on before. And I couldn't help thinking if this had been the person I used to be, she would have kept crying, never realizing the button had always been within reach, her mind filled with smoke, too afraid to trust her own courage.
