**The Blanket** Feel the warmth of the blanket, Feel the lies of your closest confidante, Spilling compliments about your half-realized accomplishments, Telling you that you do, in fact, matter, While knowing you’re no more than electrified dirt. Feel the warmth of this blanket, Feel the ties that bolster your ego, Causing you to dance the wild dance of debauchery, Helping you forget the childlike self that once loved the earth. Feel this heated blanket, Burning your skin, reminding you Of how much you love the cool touch of Egyptian cotton And the finer things that make you put work first. Feel this warm blanket, Steaming in the cold, Because you choose to follow your failures Instead of reaching your goals, Even though you’d give the next man your own shirt. This blanket is meant to protect, Yet we use it to deflect. Just know, if you’re going to lie, It’s best to make your bed.
