I still talk of you in present tense, And subconsciously plan to see you. Every time I remember my heart aches, As it plummets like the knowledge is new. As if I didn't sing you to sleep this final time, Like I didn't see you fall. Or hold you and tell you how loved you are, The prettiest horse of all. My best friend in the whole world, My confidant, my partner in crime. I'm proud of who you became, And grateful for our time. You taught me patience and compassion, Taught me honesty and trust. We grew up in this cruel world together, But continue on alone I must. I hope to see you in the sunsets and rainbows, And hear you in the rain and wind. To smell you in the grass and in my coffee, And in my heart, feel you free and galloping. So pick me up when the time is right, Fly down with your wings of glory. Our next chapter of adventure can then begin, This isn't the end of our story.
