I sit in the dark, I sit in the cold, ruthless, lonely depths of my heart. Because that's where it needs work— I never learned to love myself. So I started to claw my way Through the wall, Like a lion in a cage Forced to perform in a show He was never told he was a part of. But what can I do When the wall has fallen And the war has passed? What can I do When the cage has no key And the tin man has lost his heart? Nothing. The answer’s nothing. So I clean up the table, Put the chairs away In the box I saved To pack the life I thought I could escape. And finally, after the curtain has dropped, after the crowd has gone, I sit on the floor next to the hole— all these events still echoing in the dark at the back of my heart.
