Upon the silent eve I stand, Where shadows kiss the dreaming land, And in the hush of twilight’s breath, Thy name defies both time and death. O gentle star, thou dost arise, A silver flame in midnight skies, Thy light, though distant, warms my soul, And makes the broken spirit whole. The rose may fade, the seas may part, Yet still thou dwell’st within my heart; For love, once sworn in whispers deep, Shall wake when all the world doth sleep. So let the heavens turn to dust, The earth betray its ancient trust, Still in my breast, eternal true, My every dawn shall bloom for you.
