A Small guide for anyone wondering about some words in this poem: SAPA - a Nigerian slang for deep poverty / financial hardship. I used it as a “stage 4 illness” to describe how heavy it feels. Maka o mmụọ Chukwu na-enye ndu - an Igbo phrase meaning “For it is the Spirit of God that gives life.” Last last, we go survive- A Nigerian Pidgin English for “At the end of it all, we will survive.”
